Architectural Project Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and guidance throughout the project lifecycle including design concept, project requirements, drawing and specification development, and construction administration
  • Manage client and team (internal and external) coordination and communication

  • Create and spearhead design concept decisions for final internal review

Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering Department Manager

Your Impact

The Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering Department Manager is vital to the success of Thriven Design. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of ten years of experience designing systems for commercial, educational, healthcare, and multifamily buildings. The candidate should be seasoned and capable as an engineering project manager, capable of designing and engineering a project from initial concept through completed construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and evaluate system concepts and options to determine best design and engineering solution for each project based upon project scope
  • Develop design drawings and specifications for building mechanical systems
  • Perform systems analysis and prepare reports and studies as well as cost estimates
  • Lead and coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, and administration staff
  • Interface with clients to discuss changes to designs and/or specifications
  • Work with leadership to manage design manpower budget and update budget to reflect revisions or changes in scope
  • Represent the company in a professional manner in all dealings with owners, architects, vendors, other design professionals and contractors
  • Assist in the firm’s human resource efforts through training and mentoring junior firm members
  • Work closely with marketing, leadership, and business development
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education And Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 10 years of job-related experience
  • Professional Engineering License in NJ & PA (at least one is required, with ability to obtain the other). LEED accreditation is desirable, but not a requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management experience is required (including interfacing with client, coworkers, and code officials)
  • Proven track record of success in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Hands-on experience with engineering, design, building, and mechanical code requirements, with emphasis on multifamily facilities including affordable housing, student housing, and market-rate housing
  • Energy efficient design knowledge is a plus
  • Document quality assurance and control skills
  • Project field experience (punch list and physical needs assessments)
  • Professional technical writing skill is beneficial
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ArchiCAD or AutoCAD environment

At present, we are seeking to add electrical engineers with relevant experience who are interested in working with our senior engineers to find practical solutions when designing building systems from concept through construction completion for commercial, multi-family, educational, healthcare; new and retrofit projects. This is a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of lighting, power systems, and fire alarm systems for various building types
  • Electrical single line diagram layouts
  • Basic knowledge of building codes, and National Electrical Code
  • Design layout utilizing ArchiCAD
  • Site visits for electrical survey information and punch listing
  • Coordination with other disciplines

Education And Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering

The full tine Project Coordinator is vital to the success of Thriven Design’s Property Revitalization Studio. We are seeking an enthusiastic design professional with excellent technical, communication, and relationship-building skills focused on Property Revitalization, an aspect of our practice that concentrates on the assessment, renovation, repair, design, and enhancement of existing buildings and sites to prolong their use and viability. Property Revitalization is a powerful tool used to strengthen local economies and stabilize property values. It’s sustainability to the highest “green” degree when compared to demolition and new construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform specific project tasks adhering to deadlines and within budget, as directed by a Project Manager.
  • Conduct project research as applicable for the appropriate scope of work (historical, regulatory, building code, etc.).
  • Compile and organize data, contributing to written reports and assessment findings.
  • Effective verbal and written communication to the project team and management regarding project progress and any issues.
  • Coordinate various efforts in support of projects from initiation through close-out.

  • Candidate shall possess at least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in an architectural firm, and minimum of 5 years of experience conducting building assessments and writing technical reports.
  • Candidate for this position should have a background in architecture, engineering, building forensics, interior design, or construction management.

  • Candidates must possess strong skills in team organization and collaboration, design, technical documentation, detailing, code review and interpretation, and consultant coordination.

  • Analytical thinker with the ability to evaluate existing building conditions, building systems, and information to formulate scope of work.
  • The ability to read and understand as-built design drawings as well as to perform field inspections is critical. This includes building envelope details and material functions regarding moisture infiltration.
  • Ability to prepare property condition assessments, including technical writing proficiency, understanding of cost estimating for general budget purposes, accessibility, and understanding of various funding agency guidelines, requirements, tools, and processes.

Energy Analyst (HERS Rater)
Our Impact

Your Impact

We are presently seeking an enthusiastic Energy Efficiency Analyst (HERS Rater) full-time to work closely with our internal and external project teams to evaluate the energy efficiency of a variety of single-family, multifamily and commercial projects. Your work will help make buildings cost-effective, sustainable, safe, and healthy for their occupants. You will be the go-to internal resource for expertise on energy efficiency, internal standards, program requirements, and internal education. You may be the right person to grow with us and help us achieve our mission, “creating places where people thrive”.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Energy Analyst (HERS Rater) will perform energy modeling, inspect buildings, perform diagnostic tests, and provide consulting for single family and multifamily buildings
  • Performs preliminary HERS ratings from plans for single family and multifamily buildings prior to permitting
  • Assists project team with finding the most cost-effective way to achieve energy efficiency goals and requirements
  • Updates energy models as building is constructed or renovated and provides final HERS certificates at project completion
  • Schedules and performs on-site inspections of buildings under construction or renovation, assessing energy efficiency features including insulation, windows, air sealing, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, lighting, and appliances
  • Communicates with project representative during inspection and document findings in a report
  • Provides building science-based recommendations to clients for saving energy, improving comfort and healthfulness, and reducing environmental impact, which may include new construction or retrofit projects that will not be receiving HERS ratings
  • Passive House consulting must ensure super-insulated envelopes, airtight construction, high performance glazing, thermal-bridge-free detailing, and heat recover ventilation at a minimum
  • Performs blower door tests, duct leakage tests, and ventilation tests in single family and multifamily buildings at different stages of construction or renovation
  • Coordinates with other staff to complete testing of large projects
  • Stays up to date on the progress of all projects, managing numerous projects simultaneously
  • Ensure projects stay on track to achieve energy efficiency goals and program requirements
  • Maintains ongoing relationships with customers for future opportunities

Education and Experience:

  • RESNET HERS Rater ENERGY STAR Homes or Multifamily New Construction PHIUS Passive House Verifier or Rater. However, we are willing to train someone without this experience who is passionate about reducing the environmental impact of buildings and has a strong technical background or education and experience as a residential energy analyst
  • Must have strong math and geometry skills, excellent computer skills including Excel and databases, and excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate technical information for practical application are key
  • Must have a strong commitment to improving the sustainability of residential buildings
  • You must be able to move throughout a construction environment including outdoors, in basements and crawl spaces, and in unfinished or unfloored attics
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders and use technical and scientific equipment
  • Hands-on understanding of building science, mechanical systems, and energy efficiency requirements
  • Experience in energy modeling, LEED template, CAD, and modeling software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, eQuest, and/or REMRate, Ekotrope

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity of and/or credentialed in: LEED, Energy Star HERS Rater, PHIUS+ Rater / Verifier, Enterprise Green Communities

Your Impact

We are presently seeking a full-time enthusiastic Sustainability Manager to work closely with our internal and external project teams to evaluate the energy efficiency of a variety of multifamily and commercial projects. Your work will help make buildings cost-effective, sustainable, safe, and healthy for their occupants. You will be the go-to internal resource for expertise on energy efficiency, internal standards, program requirements, and internal education. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform energy modeling, energy audits, building and system assessments, and provide energy consulting for multifamily and commercial buildings
  • Assists architectural and engineering project team with finding the most cost-effective way to achieve energy efficiency goals and requirements
  • Provides building science-based recommendations to clients for saving energy, improving comfort and health, and reducing environmental impact for new construction or retrofit projects
  • Clearly communicate building science principles and green building program requirements to all members of the project team
  • Research technologies, programs, and/or policies related to sustainability
  • Identify energy saving strategies in new and existing buildings
  • Prepare and coordinate documentation, calculations, and analysis to support certification programs including but not limited to Enterprise Green Communities, LEED, NGBS, Passive House (PHIUS), etc.
  • Update energy models during building design to analyze various iterations of energy efficiency measures
  • Communicate with project representatives during inspection and document findings in a report
  • Stay up to date on the progress of all projects, managing numerous projects simultaneously
  • Ensure projects stay on track to achieve energy efficiency goals and program requirements
  • Maintains ongoing relationships with clients for future opportunities

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural technology, architectural engineering, sustainable design, construction management, or a building-related engineering field
  • 5-10 years of professional experience with building design or construction
  • 5-10 years of experience applying LEED, Enterprise Green Communities, PHIUS, NGBS, or WELL criteria to projects
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience reading and reviewing construction drawings, project specifications, and contractor submittals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate technical information for practical application are key
  • Must have a strong commitment to improving the sustainability of buildings
  • Requires physical demands which may include visiting active construction sites, and assisting with field tests requiring moderate physical exertion
  • Hands-on understanding of building science, mechanical systems, and energy efficiency requirements
  • Experience in energy modeling, LEED template, CAD, and modeling software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, eQuest, and/or REMRate, Ekotrope

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity of and/or credentialed in: CPHC, LEED, Energy Star HERS Rater, PHIUS+ Rater / Verifier, Enterprise Green Communities
  • Energy code and/or ASHRAE standards experience
