On Monday, March 24, the Central Planning Board of Newark voted unanimously to approve Mildred’s Bridge, a small 8-unit supportive housing project on a vacant corner lot in the City. The project is named in honor of former councilwoman Mildred Crump, and is sponsored by New Hope Memorial CDC who provides services to individuals following a period of incarceration. Successful re-entry has been proven to be directly related to (1) stable housing and (2) employment opportunities. This project will provide both the housing and the employment counseling necessary to facilitate a good re-entry for the people who will ultimately live in this supportive housing.
