Thriven Design joined Pennrose, Focused Community Strategies, and other project partners on April 10 to celebrate the grand opening of Haven at South Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. The grand opening marks the successful completion of this three-year project for which Thriven Design provided architecture, engineering, and planning services.

The 84-unit community brings much needed affordable and supportive housing to Historic South Atlanta and moves the entire city closer to achieving Mayor Andre Dickens’ goal of building 20,000 affordable housing units by 2026.

“To have quality, safe affordable housing. That’s what we’re looking at here today,” said Mayor Dickens during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The garden-style apartments are a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedrooms with 71 units income-restricted for residents earning 50-60% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Residents will enjoy on-site amenities including a clubhouse, business center, fitness space, vehicle and bicycle parking, and a community garden. Haven at South Atlanta was designed as sustainable and energy efficient to achieve EarthCraft certification, which saves the owners and tenants of Haven at South Atlanta money and improves their air quality.

Residents also benefit from on-site services offered through a partnership with Focused Community Strategies, a local nonprofit that empowers neighborhoods to thrive through mixed-income housing, economic development, neighborhood engagement, and training and consulting.
