Thriven Design is pleased to announce that our partnership with the New Jersey Community Development Corporation on Barclay Place, in Paterson, NJ, has received the prestigious 2023 Governor’s Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Award for Excellence in Housing Development.

The annual award recognizes exceptional projects that provide high-quality, affordable housing options to meet the diverse needs of residents. Barclay Place exemplifies innovative supportive housing while positively impacting New Jersey communities and increasing available affordable housing.

It was the first project in New Jersey to be developed though the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency’s (NJHMFA) $12 million Hospital Partnership Subsidy program, which recognizes collaborations between developers and community healthcare providers.

The award-winning project, Barclay Place, brings together Paterson’s New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC) and St. Joseph’s Health to blend affordable and supportive housing with on-site medical services to create “anchor institutions” that stabilize the surrounding neighborhood, provide readily available healthcare and supportive services for residents, and reduce avoidable or repeated hospital visits.

The commitment by both institutions to improving the future of the City of Paterson is evident in the success of Barclay Place, and it sets the precedent for future Hospital Partnership Subsidy Program initiatives statewide.

The Governor’s Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards has celebrated the outstanding achievements of housing and economic development projects for over 25 years in the State of New Jersey. Thriven Design is honored to have provided our expertise towards 13 project winners.
