In response to mounting evidence that affordable and supportive stable housing is a primary determinant in health and wellness, the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) created a new initiative to bring affordable housing developers into partnership with local health care providers. Barclay Place is the first project initiated under this new funding program, bringing together the combined efforts of nonprofit developer New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC) & St. Joseph’s Health – two well-established community stakeholders in the City of Paterson. The building contains 56 new apartment units, with 1, 2, & 3-bedroom layouts on the upper floors, while the ground floor is designed to accommodate resident amenities as well as 3,000 SF of tenant space to be operated by St. Joseph’s Health. The on-site delivery of case management and support services for the residents is a key element in the overall goal of creating healthier living situations, as well as establishing a broader community presence for the associated medical institution. Resident parking is located on site, behind the building, and also available on the St. Joseph’s medical campus, just a block away.
