Working with a highly-engaged team of housing authority commissioners and local stakeholders, Thriven Design led an interactive design process that examined the diverse design presence in Asbury Park, NJ – ranging from the historic neo-Mediterranean roots of this shore community to more recent contemporary urban aesthetics.  Ultimately adopting a ‘transitional’ aesthetic between existing residential forms and the newer, contemporary style, Boston Way Village is being transformed from an introspective public housing superblock into a vibrant, walkable gateway community at the southern border of Asbury Park.  Both technical and design considerations were required to evaluate the best approach to utilizing the irregular shaped site. The redesigned neighborhood capitalizes on its unique location on Memorial Drive which is within 2-blocks of the regional train station.
