Terrell Senior Residence is a new age-restricted, 69-unit community developed by The Alpert Group in partnership with the Newark Housing Authority. The residence includes four stories of apartments above a ground floor amenity level that includes secure resident parking, management and supportive services offices. It is the first phase of implementation of the Millard Terrell Homes Master Plan, a community-driven effort spearheaded by the Newark Housing Authority in 2019 with planning and design support from Thriven Design. The master plan envisions the site as a mixed-income and environmentally resilient community with a variety of medium-density housing typologies. The proposed design engages the adjacent Riverfront Park and Passaic River frontage to both create community and guard against future flooding events. Terrell Senior brings this vision to life and ensures that older adults in Newark have safe, affordable housing that enables them to age in place in their longtime community of choice.

The development of Terrell Homes Phase I (Senior) received state and federal financial support with an award of $8.9 million in NJEDA Aspire tax credits, as well as 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
